We went to the Underground Gardens in Fresno.

Every so often, a section would open to the sky and there would be a tree.

The gardens covered a lot of ground. There was passageway after passageway.

Strategically placed portholes kept underground light.

This is a bed, carved into a section of rock.

This is one of the larger garden parts. Trees grow in the center, moving towards the light. The opening is surrounded by entrances to the various parts of the underground house.

Many of the channels were curved. Part of the reason for this was to efficiently channel air throughout the house. Modern HVAC engineers could probably learn a few things about climate management by studying this house.
